About ME

Greetings!

Giving honor to God who is the head of my life, I bring greetings from...

HEE HEE! Just. Kidding. Kinda.

OK all jokes aside,  here we go:

I'm DeAna and I am addicted to food and salt.

OK! seriously this time:

I'm DeAna also known as De by my friends, DeDe by exactly 4 special people in my  world, and Mom by one super insightful, dry-humored teenage writer.  I was dubbed MacMama by a former homie/lover turned friend - but more on that in a few.

I'm a thirty-seven year old Chicago transplant by way of Bermuda by way of Chicago (I get around) - with a constant word stream circulating in my head.  I've got a lot to say and I really feel strongly about using my words.   I talk.  A lot. And once enjoyed a sixteen week stint co-hosting a Blog Talk Radio show called Cocoa Convo where I let about 40% of it all hang out. It was a family friendly host site so I'm saving the other 60% for this house - MY house!   Sometimes seasoned with undeniable wit, humor and sarcasm, sometimes steeped in introspective reflection and other times just a barrage of rogue abstract expressions, I'm all about freeing the words that want to come out! I'm a huge fan of communicating and I've got stories for days - some of which are legendary among friends.

Speaking of friends, I'm deeply devoted and connected to my family and prefer friends who feel like family - no backbiting, no cattiness and an extreme amount of cackling.  I really value my established relationships plus I'm a known connector - connecting people to other people who add value to their personal and or professional lives and have been doing it literally all my life.

A this point, I wish I had a few awards and accolades and degrees to mention but I don't and I'm sure you guys n gals don't care about my Certified Customer Service Professional (CCSP) Certification or my Bermuda Junior Debate League MVP awards, although I'm very proud of those - thank-you-very-much. The fact that I don't have any more to share, speaks to my life-long commitment to being non-committal. Isn't it ironic?

Awards aside, I'm a serious thrifter who enjoys statement fashion and am a slave to bold accessories, vintage apparel and decor - to the point where I once operated a small boutique style pop-up thrift shop called ZynnDen right in the living room of my small apartment- selling all the beautiful things I love.  Did I mention headwraps and funky eyewear?? Because I love those too.

I'm  an avid reader because so much information and adventure lives between pages. I'm a sometimes writer who really wants to honor the gift before it fades and answer the call of family, friends, colleagues and followers alike who have said they want to read what I have to write.

Finally, I am a self-proclaimed  Spirit seeking, magic making, super indulgent Taurean lover totally enthralled with discovering faith, love, truth, and magic anywhere and everywhere it exists internally and externally - gliding through the world with a trademark smile and a certain je ne sais quoi.  I skipped the modesty just then because that tells the story of how I came to be known as:

DE-MAC-MAMA

One day after work, I  met up with a "special friend" as the grandmas say.  Really impressed by my look that day he said, "I love how confident you are! You got that sexy librarian, mother  in the street, freak in the sheets type vibe." Naturally, that was all the encouragement I needed to turn up the flirt factor a few more notches as the aphrodisiac for later and besides that - who doesn't enjoy compliments from their person?  So we're enjoying the evening when I ran into a new colleague of mine who addressed me as Ms. McEwen. The conversation  was brief and standard  but after observing the whole thing my guy insisted that the new colleague was clearly smitten with me and said, "Damn DE!  I see you MACkin' (shoutout to the 90's) in your work clothes Lil MAMA!"  Ending  mockingly with, "Mizzz McEwen!" From that day forward he called me MacMama  and after time, it became synonymous with my strongest self - the part of me who is confident, sexy, inspired and inspiring, assertive, unafraid and unapologetic - the person you will often encounter here.

So come on in...

..and stay awhile.  I've got stories to tell and thoughts to share.  You might, and I hope you do - find something new to consider, a cackle on a lonely night, encouragement to be your authentic self  or re-invent,  inspiration to grow, stretch and be and if nothing else, leave inspired to wear headwraps because headwraps are dope.
